Boerewors Stew

Forget summer braai (barbecue) Fridays, In winter this dish will give you the same satisfaction you get from braai summer evenings. Besides, who want to be out on a cold night having a braai. Cook this meal and have a cosy evening with family and friends and keep those drinks coming. Enjoy!

Serves 6


Ingredients:

  • 1kg boerewors

  • robot peppers - 1 per colour

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • 1 onion

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 200g spicy canned tomatoes

  • 1 tsp thyme

  • 1 tbsp meat spice

  • 220g hot water

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 tbsp flour


Method:

  1. Place cut boerewors pieces in a baking tray and bake at 190 for 25 minutes.

  2. Chop the peppers, onion and garlic.

  3. Heat the oil in a large pan and saute for 1 minute to keep the crunch, season with thyme and meat spice.

  4. Stir in tomatoes and reduce the heat.

  5. Place the boerewors and stir to combine.

  6. Add water and increase the heat to medium, simmer for 10 minutes.

  7. In a small bowl mix butter and flour to make a paste, push the food to one side of the pan to allow space to put the butter-flour mixture and whisk rapidly, ensuring the liquid is very hot to avoid lumps.

  8. Stir and serve.
